Taiwanese snack food, noodles and dumplings

Yimster | Jan 27, 200406:50 PM     14

Today three hounds and the Mrs. tried a fairly new Café serving Taiwanese snacks, dumplings, soup noodles and plate rice meals. Prices range for $3.00 to $7.00. So I ask Tanspace to join us to share his knowledge since he know more about this type of food than anyone else I know.

I first notice this place because it is really hound friendly, because they display pictures and have a menu in both English and Chinese. No need to have the staff translate the menu for you. What first stop me in my tracks was a picture of their pot stickers, which look exactly like the ones a Joy’s in Foster City. Joy has been my standard for Taiwanese pot stickers in the Bay Area. These are close to the ones at Joy because not exactly. Also the menu at Joy is not useable unless you can speak Chinese.

So today we had the following:

Pot stickers, which were less crispy as Joy’s but soft and had a richer filling.

Fried squid, which was tender and cooked just right. The only drawback was the batter came a part and did not stay on the squid.

Salty and Crispy Fried Chicken, a little Q-cup’s crispy but still tender. With just the right amount salt.

Beef Stew Noodles, the broth was good but both Tanspace and I have had better but the house made noodles were as good as any we have had.

Pork dumpling steamed, which were also house made and were very good.

Turnip cakes, which were very firm and pan fried perfectly. But they were firm which was good but it lack turnip.

Leek and pork pancakes which I think was one of the best dishes. Very crisp and flavorful.

Tanspace and I agree we have had as good or maybe better dishes elsewhere but not all at one place. This is a stop for a quick meal that is cheap. All this food at a cost of $8.50 each of the four of us. Tanspace says this is very close to the food he had in Taiwan that as he remembers them.

They also sell packages of the dumplings(50) and pot stickers(300 to go so you can have them when you want. As last I have replacement for the place in Campbell.
