Today we had lunch at the Tai Wu Restaurant in Foster City. This is the new won ton noodle house opened by the owners of the now upscale Mr. Fongs in Foster City. I remember many years ago when Mr. Fongs first opened at their West Hillsdale location, which the food was cheap, good and lots of it. Now at their new higher end location the food is still good but not that cheap.
This new location has the same food at take out prices. Since there were only two of us we could not order a lot.
We start with the plain won ton soup. There were ten big won ton full of whole shrimp, like the ones in Chinatown. Not like the ones at most the restaurants in the mid south bay one.
Then we had Braised Pig Knuckles with Lettuce, these the Cantonese version of the much loved Red Braised Pork Shank (Shanghai version). This is prepared with a Nan Yee, which is type of processed tofu. Tender falling off the bones.
We then finished with Braised Beef Stew and Tendon in a Clay Pot. They were cooked perfectly both were tender and you could eat them without teeth.
All in all, this place make me think of the good old days when I carry my sons in the place for dinner. Now they can carry me in. I will have to try all the dishes I used to love and had on a weekly basis.
The only reason we stopped by was that Mrs. Yimster read in the Chinese Newspaper that Mr. Fongs open this won ton house. What a wonderful new addition to the South Bay.
