Last night we planned to eat at Bouchon, but when we arrived at 9 pm the wait was going to be about 90 minutes, so we headed down the block and found ourselves in front of Table. Although I've heard mixed reviews, we decided to give it a try.
Service: the service was surprisingly good. Without much of a buffer b/w the front of the house and the back (and we witnessed all kinds of interesting interactions while waiting for our table) we were a little worried that the service would be hurried and unhappy. Instead, our servers were attentive, friendly and wonderful.
Food: the food range from "eh" to pretty good.
the burrata bruschetta was very good, with delicious accompanying beet and farro salad
the creme du barry soup (cauliflower cream soup) was delicious
The goat cheese and rapini sformata was not good. It was dry and overbaked, not a custard. The butternut squash and pears that went with it were good, though. And when the waiter saw that I hadn't eaten the sformata, he handled the situation very well and they comped my plate without us asking for anything. And they wanted to send out a vegetable plate, but I was too full from the squash and appetizers
My husband enjoyed his monkfish but didn't love it.
the passionfruit and chocolate mousse semifreddo was really delicious. we LOVE passionfruit, and this was a very tasty way of preparing it
the sticky toffee pudding with hazelnut ice cream was good, but had tough competition. I'd go back for the semifreddo
We have a lot more exploring to do in Asheville, but I'm sure we'll be back again in the future if for no other reason than to give the food another try and enjoy the nice service.
