I'll be spending Christmas (as usual) with my wife's family in Syracuse, NY and fear some serious cabin fever. We've floundered about in the past for interesting places to eat and drink during the holiday time. Coming from Chicago, a city that, like New York, basically never sleeps, we need to plan ahead a little when we travel. Like most smaller cities, Syracuse unfortunately seems to roll up the sidewalks at Christmas when the students are on break. Nevertheless, this is exactly the time during which my wife and I are getting stir crazy with the relatives (who we love unconditionally, but ...). So, what recommendations can this board provide for (1) wine bars, (2) Irish or other traditional pubs, (3) Italian-American joints, and/or (4) jazz or blues clubs in the great city of Syracuse that we can expect to be open on the days surrounding Christmas? And extra points to anyone who can suggest a worthwhile diversion for Christmas night itself (and we'll pray we have something less than the 24 inches of snow that fell in Syracuse last Christmas). Thanks!
