Had a great dinner this weekend at Swad. A friend had read Robert Sietsema's write up of it in the Voice (I had the same thought...someone still reads the Voice???). Sigh...I couldn't get enough of the nan. After dinner, I spent some time chatting with the woman who makes the nan and she was as warm and lovely as can be. I walked away thinking only caring and loving hands like hers can produce bread like that. Unbelieveable. I had some wrapped to go...for later. The friendly gentleman at the steam table up front took extreme good care of us and put together a bit of everything for our table, as we each couldn't decide on just ONE entree. The goat brain was rich and sweet. Luckily, of my three dining companions, only one tried it, leaving all the rest for me! The cow's feet were good as well. Excellent for dipping. It was perfect food for such a bitterly cold night. My female companion pointed out that aside from the bread maker and the waitress, we were the only women there. The joint was packed at this point...and we noticed another table of Sietsema-article-clutching-diners there.
