My father and I have been curious about this place for a long time--figuring, by the outside, that it would be a righteous burger joint or something of that nature. Righteous they were, but a burger joint, no.
They do have burgers, but I didn't see anyone else ordering them. This is a place to get salad--better than any we've ever had in this city. The sight of the salad case nearly brought me to my knees--everything is so fresh and bright and beautiful. Dizzied by the options (ones that I still wish I'd gotten--fava bean; corn salad; Greek and barley; and avacado, tomato and mango), we settled on French potato; (wonderful--with broccoli and bell peppers, for some reason--but not complaining), asparagus (awesome! awesome! awesome! Perfectly cooked, very, very flavorful, dusted with good Parmesan), and beets barely dressed, allowed to shine. Just fantastic. Vegetable soup came packed with cabbage and carrots, potatos and celery--very simple and tasty. Potato leek soup seemed to have spinach in it and was under-seasoned; the gentleman we sat next to said it was better yesterday. Dad's steak sandwich was very good but not great(excellent baguette); fries on the side were very nice indeed.
My veggie lasagna was among the best I've ever had--no bechamel, just a lot of very creamy riccotta.
Service is prompt, friendly and informal.
We're adding this to our list of regular stops-----and no, I don't work there.
