Promised my 14 yr old and his friend that I would teach them what little I know about making sushi. Based on recommendations from Chowhounders we headed to the Bowl Saturday. The boys loved choosing among the many varieties of nori, tofu, miso paste (although we could use some advice on the tofu and miso--none of us were thrilled with our choices). They bought tobiko, hamachi, shrimp, unagi, crab. (They were especially happy to discover the Bowl carries a Japanese soda they are addicted to and had been buying in Japantown in SF. Can't read the name--it's in Japanese--comes in a glass bottle. You remove a metal cap and push down a marble into the bottle which causes lots of fizzing. There are SEVEN warnings on the bottle!) I prepped the rice and toppings and they had a lot of fun experimenting with different combinations and rolling techniques. Thanks to everyone for their advice.
