Miso, 38 Main Street, Brooklyn (bet. Front & Water St.) opened today. I ate there at lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Very small place - only one row of tables and some seats at the sushi bar, but modern and clean and the staff is eager to please; although clearly it was the first day and they had some kinks in the service to work out. The lunch menu is deceptively small - it would appear that the only sushi you could get was their selection or a 2 roll combination, but upon questioning the owner, you can order anything you want off the dinner menu which is much larger. In addition to sushi there are some teriyaki items as well as some cooked fish and seafood items (such as black cod with miso & mussels with sake garlic sauce). Only 3 non-seafood/fish dishes that I could see - 2 chicken, 1 steak. They also serve Ito En iced teas. I had sushi and was pleasantly surprised with the quality (but then I had low expectations having eaten sushi in Brooklyn Heights and been horribly disappointed) - the pieces are on the large size and tasted quite fresh. Sushi (nigiri) & sashimi by the piece ranged from $2 for tamago, shrimp & mackeral to $3 yellowtail, $2.5 for tuna, salmon, striped bass and market price for scallop, sweet shrimp and lobster, for example. Plenty of rolls (maki) as well - about $4-$8. All in all it's not going to be the next Jewel Bako, but it's a great addition to Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights for those of who live and work nearby.
