After months of reading about this place, and doing the appropriate research, I decided to go out on a limb and head to this sushi institution during lunch. A coworker and I staked out a parking spot early, before opening, and sat anxiously awaiting word that the restaurant was open. A small line formed and we headed in.
I saw that the decor was bare, and the red lighting had a 80's arcade/Devo music video feel to it. I didn't mind it at all, because I knew the magic would be happening behind the counter. My coworker had been there before so we opted for the Trust Me specials. I overheard a 'special request' made by a customer behind us, which was promptly rejected by the waiter (youch!).
Needless to say everything was excellent. My personal favorite was the albacore, like buttah! I used so little of my soy sauce and wasabi, I really wanted to savor every morsel that was being presented. I'm not that well versed in sushi, so there are things I have yet to try (ex. Toro). I was able to try these things today, and boy was I floating afterwards.....maybe because my wallet seemed a little lighter after lunch =).
The chef was very kind and even gave us a friendly bow goodbye.
All I can say is that I feel a small sense of accomplishment now that I have braved the crowds and eaten at Sushi Nozawa. I just wanted to share with you folks!
