Sushi Metsuyan, Kew Garden Hills

Sharon | Jan 15, 2006 02:31 PM

I went to Sushi Metsuyan in Kew Garden Hills for the first time Saturday night after hearing many good reviews. Unfortunately my experience was not a positive one.

We ordered the Shumai, CrystalDumplings & Pan Gyoza appetizer, which was good, but nothing special. For our main courses, my friend ordered a few fish rolls, which were fine, and I ordered the Panko crusted Chicken Katsu, which was not so great.

As for the service, it was terrible. The restaurant was quite busy, but there was no reason for us to be standing around for 15+ minutes before the hostess acknowledged us.

While we were waiting for our table to be set-up, a large party came in, stating to the hostess they had reservations. The hostess checked her clip-board and acknowledged the reservation, but told the customers there was no table for them and they had to wait anyway. What's the point of a reservation if there is no table for you when you arrive? Needless to say the party left and apparently went elsewhere.

There was no reason for the sushi my friend ordered to be brought to the table a full half hour before my meal. When I questioned the waiter where my meal was, he rudely replied "it's coming".

Needless to say, I will be heading elsewhere the next time I want Japanese.
