For those of you that have been to woodside, you may have gotten a chance to eat at Chanitas on 52nd St. and 43rd Ave. It was a decent Mexican spot that doubled as a diner and delivered until around midnight. Great place.
Another spot, probably not well known to many was a Colombian place between 51st and 52nd St. on Skillman Ave next door to the Thai Malay Cafe. The storefront used to be a Colombian bakery (I think) about 4-5 years ago, they closed down for 2-3 years and recently reopened about 8-9 months back as a Colombian restaurant named Kokoriko (a common restaurant name in Colombia). Anyway, first went their sign (supposedly they said it was due to a partnership breakup), next about 4 months later the entire place shut down.
One of the guys that worked there lives in the neighborhood and I saw him and his son the other day and asked him what happened - his response in Spanish was that the costs were too high and they did not have enough customers. J&S Dry Cleaners next door to Chanitas told me that they shut down due to not being able to pay their rent and suppliers.
Rosario's, one of the best slices in the city (IMO), located on 50th and Skillman for the last 50+ years (??) may suffer the same fate. He had two guys working for him that he had to let go. I don't even think he is covering his costs at this point. He has a special on slices going for $1.75. I give him about 3-6 months.... all very sad =(
