Summer lunch

Zoe | Jan 14, 2004 01:15 AM

Since it was 92 deg in Montebello this lunchtime, I needed a large shrimp cocktail so we headed to 7 Mares on Whittier near Garfield. (wanted to try a hole in the wall on Olympic but was voted down even although it displayed an A rating). 7 Mares has a new menu and a spruced up decor with plenty of salsa on a good sound system. Home made salsa and hot chips arrived right away. A lot of choice for lunch - halibut, shrimp with garlic among others. We ordered the 2 for 1 shrimp coctel for $9.95 - plenty of shrimp and avocado and a good spicy sauce, and the fish taco plate for $4.95 - this latter was ENORMOUS with two huge soft tacos each with a very large piece of perfectly fried fish, fluffy, fresh and very tasty. Served with shredded cabbage, crema, rice and addictive beans made with bacon. Couldn't finish the tacos so brought the rest home for Devil Chow who has a liking for fish - it always raises my popularity numbers.
