It's pretty crazy around here right about now, what with all the traffic and people hitting the fancy restaurants in Lenox and Great barrington. To avoid all this, we like to go to the farmer's markets in Sheffield (Fridays) and Great Barrington (Saturdays). If we are up for a drive, over to Troy for the big outdoor extravaganza on Saturday mornings. You can buy bagfuls of strawberries, whole chickens, fresh raviolis, fresh mozzerella from a guy who sells to Nobu and le cirque, car-sized almond croissants that come from Mrs. Londons in Saratoga Springs. The best is Farm Country Soup, quarts of it from a woman who makes it fresh, here in the berkshires. All kinds of cold soup for the summer: borscht, mushroom, cucumber. She has a take out store at the Buggy Whip Factory, which is 15 minutes from great Barrington. We like to go there and then to the Montery Chevre goat farm, Rawsons, which is about a pretty drive from there, visit the baby goats and get a tub of cheese. You can take this meal anywhere without waiting to be seated. You are pretty much set in this weather with some gazpacho, chevre a baguette and a whiffleball.
