I've been doing lunch takeout lately from this Indian veg place on 45th Street just west of 5th), I think they're Gujuarati, but the dishes are multi-regional. The food is generally well prepared and less oily than most. Dishes range from OK to delicious, with standouts being the spicy Hyderabadi baigan (Thursdays), some of the best channa I've had in NY, khaman dhokla (those wonderful, yellow steamed channa flour cakes, and one of the few Gujarati items I really love), and pretty good bhindi & saag paneer. Dishes vary by day. One of the more interesting things, which I haven't tried elsewhere is patra (taro leaves stuffed with channa flour & spices). To-go they charge by the pound ($4.95, I believe); the eat-in buffet is $10.95.
