Suggestions for Quick Visit?

REMINV | Jun 8, 2008 03:02 PM

I will be in Portland area June 27 & 28 only. This will be my first visit in many years and I know nothing of dining possibilities. For business reasons, will be staying in area called Gresham, but am willing to go into Portland to visit the right restaurant(s). I will have a car.

Main concern is lunch on Saturday. I will be inviting a former business associate and good friend whom I haven't seen for several years. He lives near Bend and may not know much about Portland possibilities. He will only be in the area for the day.

Based on his preferences, we need a place for lunch where we can have a long conversation (lingering would be the idea) with good, relatively unadventurous food. A good steak place would be fine, but we would be open to other possibilities like Mexican, etc. Obviously, noise would not help. Price is not an issue, but comfort and pleasant atmosphere are as important as the food.

Once the Saturday lunch destination is resolved, I need places where I could have a dinner and a breakfast. I can move well beyond my friend's comfort zone when on my own. Most important for me is to avoid chains and to try to visit someplace a little unusual- I'm open to all cuisines, but no fish.

Hope these details will suffice without being boring and I look forward to any responses.

Thanks.
