Suggestions for menu for a small lunch time party

misspcgenius | Sep 12, 201704:23 PM

I am planning a Halloween costume party for my mom’s group. There will be about 20-25 adults (parent couples) and about ten 11/12 month-old babies. The babies are eating solid foods and most are sharing parent’s foods. It will most likely not last too long, probably about 2 hours. The party is at noon, so I want to make sure all the parents feel like they had a lunch and there is food to eat or takeaway for the little ones. It will be buffet style and eating while chasing children and visiting each other. This is my first party of this size that I am having, so I would like to have it go well, but I am struggling with what to serve. I am based in Southern California.

I am trying to have a combination of a nice presentation but easy to prepare with as much as possible that can be made ahead or takes minimal time. My little one will be 11 months at that time and I work full time, so I don’t want to overdo it and be unable to execute.

For the main dishes, I originally was thinking a chili bar, but now thinking that may not be a great option for the type of party. Now I am going back and forth between sliders and a variety of meatball options. Or just to purchase sandwiches from the store.

********************* Possible main dishes *************
Chili Bar
• Pumpkin flavored chili
• White chicken chili or Quinoa and broccoli veggie chili
• Various toppings for chili and rolls

• BBQ beef – Toppings: pickles, onions and mini cheese slices for toppings
• Chicken Caesar – Toppings: parmesan, romaine lettuce, and crispy pita chips pieces for toppings
• Tahini jackfruit – Toppings: sautéed kale, Dijon mustard, mayo
• Slider rolls: whole grain, white, gluten free
• Traditional Coleslaw – I will purchase

• BBQ meatballs
• Asian flavored meatballs
• Marinara
• Spicy
• Some combination of beef, turkey and vegan
• Ball shaped rolls with cheese filling
• Traditional Coleslaw – I will purchase

Other dishes and food I am considering to serve alongside chosen main dish

Toothpick skewers
• Caprese – tomato, mozzarella, basil leaf, balsamic vinegar and oil
• Italian – cheese tortellini, salami, sharp white cheddar, olive, Italian dressing
• Greek – tomato, cucumber, red onion, Kalamata olives, feta, and vinaigrette
• Cuban sandwich on a stick – pork loin, ham, swiss cheese, mini dills with honey mustard on the side
• Mozzarella, pepperoni, and olives

Mini balls / appetizers
• Spinach balls
• Broccoli & cheddar balls
• Parmesan tortellini bites with marinara
• Mini cornbread muffins

• Cucumber and cream cheese
• Cranberry and feta
• Creamy salsa
• Rainbow veggie
• Chicken enchilada
• Mediterranean Chicken

• Fruit with a monster shaped/cutout watermelon (purchasing fruit platter and a mini watermelon to style and display)
• Veggie platter with dip in a hollowed-out pumpkin with pumpkin lid for decoration (purchasing veggie platter, most likely a grilled veggie platter to make it more baby friendly) Dips aren’t decided yet – maybe 2-3 options, but one displayed in the pumpkin and the others in small dishes on the platter
• Greek platter (purchasing)
• Chips and salsa and maybe some kettle chips

Homemade Baby “platter” – using healthy baby recipes for babies their age. These will be available with the recipes and babies can eat at the party or take home. Additionally, the parents can feed them anything else that is available
• Mini blueberry muffin
• Mini apple cinnamon muffin
• Pumpkin spice muffin
• Spinach pumpkin pasta bites
• Applesauce
• And some steamed broccoli for color

• Mini bundt cakes – purchasing and will display in a cupcake tower
• Mini caramel apples on a toothpick
• Dipped grapes on a toothpick
• Brownie caramel bites
• Mini pumpkin pies using store bought pie
• Pumpkin pie cheesecake dip in a hallowed out pumpkin with something crunchy for dipping

And maybe a nonalcoholic fun Halloween drink
