My friend and I are taking some young 20-something year old guests from Japan out for dinner in a few weeks on a Wednesday evening. We will be a table of 6-7, with all meat eaters except for 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan (which also means no eggs or dairy). We notice that our guests are fascinated with food they normally never get to have since they live in a small community on an island in Japan (so I notice photos of sausage in a bun on their FaceBook photos as they tour the continent :) - they are performance artists so they are on tour around North America), so I am trying to think of someplace fun and tasty that they might enjoy here.
At first, I got the suggestion of Poutineville (since they also have vegan poutine!) but they are stopping in Montreal right before Toronto, so they might have already had it there.
Suggestions can be very Canadian, North American, Toronto, or something else altogether.. but definitely not East Asian food. Also, someplace not overly expensive since we aren't rich.. lol! Preferably a place that takes reservations or if not, someplace we won't have to wait long for a table (and if no reservation possible, it has to be very tasty and worth any wait time!).
I am trying to find out what hotel they are staying at so it might be close to there (it is probably near Sony Centre), but it probably doesn't have to be. It might be fun to pick them up and go with them on the horrible TTC (which could be interesting for them).
