Suggest an unknown Gem

Going to NO just after Mardi Gras, arriving Sunday, leaving Wednesday. My friend's first visit.

I'm a repeat visitor and have enjoyed Commanders, Mothers, the Clover Grill, Ugelishsch's, Praline Connection, Marisol, Antoine's & Galatoire's, NOLA, Tujagues... you get the picture: I love NO cooking, high and low.

But this time, I am looking for an unknown Gem: an eatery that I haven't heard of and am unlikely to stumble across in 2 days.

Can be "upscale", "downmarket", lunch or dinner -- doesn't matter. As long as transported you somehow. Would love to hear your suggestions.

PS, we won't have a car, so it needs to be within, say, a 30 min cab ride of lower Canal Street...

Thank you! And I promise a trip report.
