Let me preface by saying that I'm not the best baker/dessert maker.
So my question is why do dessert recipe's have SO much sugar???
I don't think I have ever made a recipe with the full sugar amount since it seems way to much for me.
Example - I was making a vanilla gelato recipe and it called for 2 cups milk and ONE cup sugar. I halved the sugar but it was still too sweet. Same with Ina's creme anglaise recipe.
Even "healthy" cake recipe's - way too much sugar.
I have a recipe I'm about to try but again with the 1 cup PLUS 2tbl sugar.
I have thrown away many a recipe due to it being too sweet - how do I make these recipes and figure out how much sugar to add before ruining it? Is it just a case of adding 1/4 of a cup at a time and tasting it?
