Sudden Aversion to Specific Food

Hey Everyone,

The weirdest thing has come about over the past couple weeks in that I’ve formed a sudden aversion to rice (all kinds). Before anyone asks, no I am not pregnant.

About two weeks ago I was making some brown rice at home and it just didn’t... taste quite right. I thought maybe I’d gotten a bad bag or hadn’t cooked it quite right. I dumped the batch and didn’t think much of it.

A few days later my friend was in town and I took her to my favorite Mexican restaurant. They have my favorite rice ever (it’s so good I sometimes just order a side of rice and beans instead of a meal). Anyways, it happened again. The rice tasted off again. My friend said hers tasted fine and she tried a bite of mine and said it tasted the same as hers. I thought perhaps I was getting sick and it was throwing my taste buds off.

Fast forward another week or so now. I ordered an avocado roll from for delivery from my local sushi place. Again, tasted terrible. I ended up making a sandwich.

That’s three different types of rice that have all tasted off to me (and in the same way— I don’t know how to describe it other than they all tasted as if they’d started to sour or go bad). I’d have chocked it up to that being possible in one of the instances, but all three with three types of rice seems unlikely.

Anyone ever have something like this happen? I’ll probably eventually ask the doctor about it but it doesn’t seem like a pressing emergency. Just more curious if anyone has ever had a sudden aversion to something they love pop up.
