suckered in Newburyport

I went to Plum Island every single day this past weekend, needing a heavy NE beach fix before coming back to NY. Stopped at a gross "gourmet" shop on the main drag in Newburyport and was suckered by their sandwich menu -- ended up paying $6+ for supermarket hummus on Wonderbread. I'm sorry I can't provide more information, only that it is on one of the 2 main cross streets and across the street from a wonderful bookstore. Anyway, the guy didn't use gloves when he made the sandwich either, which wouldn't bother me but grossed me out on top of the Wonderbread, the slightly stale odor in the store and his nasty attitude. Stay away. It is designed for unsuspecting tourists like me who are too shy to say anything.

Any better sandwich options around there? I'm trying to get back up as much as I can this summer.
