I am making a vegetarian soup recipe (vegetables and barley) that calls for a turnip. As I recall, I had turnips once many years ago and didn't like them. So I'm seeking suggestions for a substitution. The recipe already calls for the following vegetables, so I would want to choose something else: leeks, carrots, celery, Yukon Gold potatoes, green cabbage, and frozen peas. the first thing I thought of was rutabagas or parsnips. I like parsnips, and I think I tasted rutabagas once and didn't mind them. Would these work?
