Subdividing This Board Into More Local Ones

Jim Leff | Apr 21, 200206:03 PM

This board is the shame of the site : )

We never intended to have one single board cover this entire region. It's almost insulting (fwiw, I LOVE food in the Midwest....can't wait to get back!).

So...if we split it up, how would you locals suggest we proceed?

If we're overly broad (as we are now), people in real specific places (Elgin, Madison, etc) never feel at home. If we're overly narrow, we'll have a gazillion empty, actionless message boards optimistically covering a gazillion communities. We'd like to divide it so that each board will have a basic quorum.

Also, the "city center" model we've used in CA hasn't been totally successful; everyone (as in real life!) gravitates to the cities. So we're reluctant to set it up as: "General OH", "Cleveland", "General MN", and "Twin Cities". The general boards in those cases will remain sleepy. Better to do wider chunks, and let the cities overflow deep into surrounding area.

Your suggestions and opinions are very welcome (and appreciated!).
