I just brought a bottle of pumpkinseed oil home from Austria and am fascinated by it. It's dark purple-ish in the bottle, kind of like motor oil, but when it hits a white plate or a napkin, it shows up beautiful deep green. It has an intense roasty-toasty peanuty flavor, with a touch of mysterious funkiness that reminds me of black walnuts. It's so good, and I've been having fun pouring it on stuff: salads, apples, brussels sprouts, bananas, boiled beef, my finger. So far, it's gone well with everything.
I welcome any other ideas. One thing that blew my mind was a dish of pumpkinseed oil gelato I had at a restaurant in Graz. Man was that good.
