Strange mix in PEI

yumyum | Sep 4, 2002 11:19 PM

I enjoyed the week before Labor Day in PEI, Canada and had an odd eating vacation, to say the least. We dined every night at the house on lobster and mussels, and they were so good and sweet, but the few meals we ate out were dull.

Checked out the St. Ann's Lobster supper menu but for the price of one "four course dinner" we could serve 5 of us if we cooked in. And we did.

The Oyster Barn in Malpeque harbor had a great pan fried oyster dish (cooked in margarine, the chef assured me) sadly served with some bad bad bread.

Shopping in the Easy Save or the other stores, we didn't find very nice produce, either. However the spuds were beyone reproach. Wonder if there IS good restaurant food on PEI?

I'm not complaining... the scenery and the weather was enough to win me over, just wondering about culinary treats on the island.

PS -- our landlord runs the seafood shop in Malpeque harbor... great bugs and really great cod. Check it out.
