How do you get your steak cooked at Luger's?

Hey all just trying to get a little poll going here on how you all order your steak at Luger's. I for one have been there three times and have gotten it medium rare everytime with a nice crust on the outside (because I share with my dad and he doesnt like it to be too rare).

However, this time since my father will not be with me I am considering getting it cooked rare. I really love my steak in between rare and medium rare with a nice charred crust. But I tried asking for this once and the waiter kinda looked at me funny. So I just told him gimme medium rare, but a little less than that.

I am just worried that if I just order it plain rare its gunna come out purple and cold which I really don't care for. I like it to be more DEEP RED with a charred crust. And yes, I know that the steak tends to cook a little more as it sits in the beautiful sizzling juices. So how do you all get it cooked and what are your experiences when ordering rare specifically?
