Starting Dinner Early

cjleiren | Apr 2, 201503:53 PM

My Fiance's family makes dinner plans on a regular basis, but very often they schedule dinners at times which are very hard for me to arrive on time. I.e. I work until 6pm and am expected at 6:30pm despite travel time and unforseen problems.

More annoying than always feeling like I have to rush to make it, sometimes they all gather together BEFORE the appointed time and start eating WITHOUT ME. This usually occurs without any warning whatsoever. I have expressed how much I hate this. I feel it is not only rude, but is somehow a slight toward me personally because I can not arrange my work schedule to arrive at the earlier time. Generally, I end up being the only one at the table still eating. It feels a lot like eatting alone.

Are my expectations for dinner to start at the original appointed time unrealistic?
