Went to a small birthday dinner at the Starlight (34th betw Guadalupe and Lamar)last night. The rumors about the tiny portions are true.
We were seated in the ridiculously sweltering and seemingly unfinished back room. Avoid this.
Our pleasant wait staff proceeded to bring out some nice wines (they ran out of some while we were there)and went on to take orders of the appetizers. The beef carpiccio was nice but was overwhelmed by a roquefort mousse, the tuna egg rolls were uninspired hunks of tuna in a wrapper with little else, and a salmon appetizer looked nice but never made the rounds to me.
Don't come to thid place hungry. The sea bass couldn't have been even three ounces, my salmon wrapped in proscuitto and served with a small salad and fried green tomatoes was delicious while all three ounces lasted. The special beef tenderloin with chevre potatoes was a full four ounces dining pleasure. Desserts were little more than a pleasant whiff.
The prices are slightly lower than in comparable quality restaurants in the area but the portion size is laughable. My wife finished her sea bass in three bites. If you use eyeglasses, brinng the not for the menu but so that you can find your entree.
