Do I really need a standing blender?

Dordogne | Apr 14, 2006 02:31 PM

I have limited counter space, a food processor and a stick blender. My 15-year old Oster standing blender is still working, but I've managed to lose the lid and haven't found a satisfactory makeshift solution (a "lid" made of multiple layers of foil and held down by hand doesn't work if I need to add liquid in a steady stream, etc.). Are there things that only a standing blender can do well and, if so, any recommendations for modestly-priced models? Any opinions re the deeply discounted $60 KitchenAid model on Amazon?
