Standard 2706 Redux (Dallas)

After the last exchange on this board regarding Standard 2706 I wasn't sure whether the place was good or if I just had a lucky first encounter. Based on another visit, I have to say that I like the place and look forward to going back. I had new partners in attendance this visit and it was interesting to see where everyone gravitated to on the menu. The appetizer winners were once again the salmon tartare and the charred beef but were joined by an interesting version of salmon pancake and a bowl of mussels done in tasty broth. The entree winners were the quail, done with an asian spice touch served over polenta. The outside was spicy and crispy and the inside was tender and moist. The steak, and the short rib entrees also got high praise from the group. We indulged in another bottle of Regusci merlot which is not to be missed if you get the chance. The desserts are truly so so here so we passed. The service and decor seem to match to me. Casual but nice. The feeling I get there is what I would call "neighborhood comfortable." This is definitely a place where they place your bottle of wine on your table and you may be the one refilling your own glass, which for my group is definitley ok. It just means one less break in the conversation from a server interruption. I will say that our water glasses never came close to empty and our server was very eager to please. And if all else fails, Brianne, the chef's wife runs the front and she is always close around. Overall, I think Standard is an excellent choice for a midpriced new american meal. And I as I said previously, it should be easy to secure a last minute reservation given the Deep Ellum location. Valet attendants are setup at the front door so no worries about parking. Food bill was $30/person.
