Vegies like broccoli are fibrous and need to be blanched so they're easier to stir fry. I'll blanch different vegies or maybe even meats so I'd like reuse the boiling water instead of dumping everything into a sink strainer.
I don't like the mesh or Chinese style web strainers because food gets stuck in the mesh. They are hard to clean once food gets in there.
If they made a 2.5 or 3 qt SS sauce pan with a pasta strainer I would buy it at any price. They just don't come in that size. Pasta strainers at least 6+ qts which is way too big too much of a hassle to clean.
TJMaxx, Marshalls, Target, and BBB don't carry these type of strainers. Amazon carries this but might be a pain to return if I don't like it. The second photo looks like the Paderno from Amazon.
