So it's taken me 2 years, but I *finally* got my ass over to Weezie's for dinner last night. What kills me is that I've driven right past it hundreds of times and never realized it was RIGHT THERE. Sheesh.
It's everything it's been cracked up to be: the perfect little neighbourhood bistro -- cozy, charming atmosphere, friendly service and a small, but totally approachable and perfectly prepared menu. The wine list also made me happy, as they had a lovely Cremant d'Alsace for $49. Between my 3 dining companions, we had the mac and cheese, frisee salad w/panko breaded fried egg, the hamburger, the arctic char, the whole mackerel and the malva (molva?) pudding for dessert. Everything was as it should be -- simply prepared and very tasty. My friends loved the fish dishes so much they kinda didn't want to share. The mac and cheese is actually the best rendition I've had in any restaurant in TO. It's really pungent and cheesy -- just the way I like it. And thank god, the noodles weren't overcooked. The burgers rocked, as did the accompanying fries. The fact that they put a slice of bacon on top AND on the bottom kinda made my day (hey, it's the little things).
Oh, and the molva pudding puts the sticky toffee pudding at the Drake and Nota Bene to shame.
So thanks, 'hounds, for keeping Weezie's on my radar all this time. Call me a new regular.
