Spire RW Review (Good but Long)

Jane | Aug 22, 2003 11:51 PM

Hi Everyone-

I just got back from RW Dinner at Spire. I was so anxious to report it to you all, because I was completely surprised (in a good way) by the quality of the food and service.

The three course dinner, was amazing because each course had 4 full-size selections from its regular menu. What a value!!!

I had:
A: foie gras with a fig pastry (humongous piece of foie gras perfectly seared, have you ever heard of foie gras on the menu during RW?!?)
E: Duck with chanterelles and smaller piece of foie gras (very tasty as well, by the way do you know that foie gras is my absolute favorite?)
D: Panna Cotta with shredded phylo and strawberry soup (also very good, smooth and rich, but not too heavy)

My boyfriend had:
A: Country pate with saucisson on briocheand apricot jam(it was very tasty,I have a love-hate thing with pate- this was a love)
E: Steak frites with mache and special butter for the steak (also very good, again another value have you ever heard sirloin teak on RW?)
D: Chocolate Cherry cake with ice cream and cherry cookies (good but a little dry if you didn't eat it with ice cream)

We also received amuse bouche and petit fours (amazing macaroon, truffle, biscuit, toffee). The bread basket has 3 different kinds of bread (dark raisin, a multi-grain, and country style loaf). My boyfriend had the wine tasting (3 glasses) for extra $20. The waiter comped me a glass of wine as well (because I usually don't drink more than half a glass of wine). Due to some problems with other customers, that sorta effected the wine tasting, the waiter also comped a mini Laurent-Perrier with my boyfirned's dessert. Finally because he accidently spilled some tea on the table, he comped the espresso and jasmine tea. In total with 20% tip and bottle of sparkling water, we spent $111. That is totally amazing for the dining experience we had.

I stated to the waiter that the menu was fabulous, and he said that they are really trying hard to get a faithful customer base. Although it is expensive, I think that during RW week Spire offered one of the best experiences. I admit the only fault was the service, it was a bit rushed at times, but I believe this was due to a full and busy room. The room itself was very hip looking (I know pretentious!), but waitstaff was extremely gracious and helpful. I would definitely try Spire again.
