Read in Now Magazine that Spices was a good place for Indian food so I thought I'd try it out at lunch. They have a veggie thali for $6.99 and meat one for $8.99. I had the veggie one: palak paneer, turnip & potatoe, shittake mushroom & potatoe & dahl with tumeric scented rice and a spiced salad with peppers, apples & cucumbers on some lettuce, yogurt/raita on the side and plus I ordered a chai. Cost me $10 tax in. Its a deal and worth the 10 bucks.
I was dining alone so I don't know what the meat dishes are like. They don't seem to use a lot of cream like other indian restaurants. I didn't fall asleep in the afternoon and managed to eat supper. Usually I am soo stuffed with other places that I can't eat dinner and I'm still digesting lunch until the next day. So if you want to try some nicely spiced (wasn't over spiced with chilis) its worth a try.
They make their own samosas too. I found them overpriced. I think it was 1.25 each. Yes I know they are labour intensive however with sooo many places offering samosas its hard to pay that much for a samosa.
Its on Temperance street just off of Yonge. If you're in the financial district and want to stay out of the food courts, its worth the walk
