Special Dinner and Cant Miss Cheap Eat

Hi guys, im a new york hound and I will be venturing into your fine city this thursday for 5 days of exploring, biking, walking and of course eating. I am going to comb through the boards for tips on eateries in specific SF neighborhoods. However, because it is such an overwhelming wealth of information I am looking for help with two queries:

1) A special restaurant that we can either walk into or get a reservation at on slightly under a weeks notice. We dont mind waiting on a list to eat if it is worthwhile and not insane (2+ hours). It can be anywhere in SF that is accessible by public transportation. We dont drink and are looking for something expensive but not too haute or too outrageous (nothing with suite required). Probably between 100-150 dollars with no alcohol. We have had great dining experiences in new york and are looking for either a uniquely SF institution or just some place with such darn good food that it cant be passed up.

The cuisine is a little tricky because my girlfriend doesnt enjoy french or new american cooking. We love Italian, all asian cuisines, and love seafood (places like pearl oyster bar in nyc)

2) Any inexpensive places that just cant be missed. For example in new york we often make the trek out to Queens to eat at Sripraphai or go to DiFaras for pizza. These are real destination places in our mind and are not expensive.

Thanks a ton, I will be sure to report back on my experience.
