Sparks-terrible service

Probably among the worst service experiences I’ve ever had and, at $95/person for food that’s comparable to a dozen other places, definitely the worst value. My friends and I will never go again.

Went to Sparks last night in a party of 3, and after below-average service the whole night (water glasses going un-refilled and bread plates empty for long periods), after serving desert the waiter CONSCIOUSLY ignored us for 45 minutes (never looked at us at any time, and always turned his back to us when he passed by or served the tables near us).

To get the check one of my colleagues finally had to yell “Sir” loud enough where he couldn’t ignore us (at that moment, he was within touching distance for what must have been the 5th time during the final 20 minutes, when we were actively focused on getting his attention).

The place was not very busy, and our waiter routinely serviced the tables near us. I can only guess management was trying to send us a “stay away” message, since we didn’t order high margin items like bottled water or wine.

We were hardly wallflowers, though. Our table of 3 ordered 3 drinks, 3 appetizers (2 being the highest-priced), 3 main courses (2 again being the highest-priced, ex-lobster), 1 side dish, 1 salad, 1 desert, and 2 coffees. The check (including about a 16% tip) came out to $95/person.

If no message was intentionally being sent, the place is incompetently managed for its price point (there’s no excuse for bad service if the place isn’t really busy).

Either way, a “stay away” message was received loud and clear. (This isn’t the first time I’ve had bad service at Sparks, just the “final straw” experience.)

Had the lamb chops, hot crabmeat and scallops appetizer, and mushroom caps side dish. Nothing special with any of the dishes (didn’t ask my friends about their meals).
