For anyone that may be going to Spark's in the near future...
I went last night and needed to pick wine, keeping the cost reasonable. I noticed a '99 Napa cabernet by Schweiger that was selling for $40. '99 was a good year for CA cabs, and I thought, wow, $40 is a good deal. The wine turned out to be terrific and after looking it up this morning, I found that the wine retails for $40-45.
Confused, I called Spark's this morning and was told that they have an arrangement with the producer to sell the wine at its retail cost.
I wonder how often restaurants do this. I would love to know in advance, but I guess that it's not really in their interest to point you to the low/no markup items. Hmph.
Anyway, it's a great deal for those that may be inclined... just fyi.
