Opened up the 2005 Erna Schein (fka Berens & Hitchcock) Spare Me Napa Cabernet Sauvignon a couple nights ago with lasagna, salad and peas. It is a blend of 76% CS, 12 % Merlot and 12 % CF. ABV 14.9% according to the label. It was nicely balanced, and drank well straight from the bottle with no decanting. It proved to be a good match for the simple fare we prepared, but would great with the usual suspects (steaks / red meat in general). Deep purple color. A lot of fruit (but not overwhelming), black cherry and some spice. Medium-long finish. I expect this would hold up well in the cellar for quite a few years. I may lay one or two down to see how they age. I have tried a couple of the Erna Schein (and prior B&H) offerings, and, in my opinion, found this to be one of the more enjoyable wines.
