Spain on a Tight Budget

tvdxer | May 9, 2008 11:03 PM

I am going on a trip to Spain and Morocco, leaving on May 13th and coming back on June 9th. I plan on being in Spain from the 14th to the 30th, and the 7th and 8th. My plan is to visit:

* Barcelona
* San Sebastian (side trips to Hondarribia, maybe other places in Basque country)
* Madrid (possible side trip to Segovia or Toledo)
* Granada (side trips to Guadix and Lanjaron / Pitres)
* Tarifa

I'm on a very tight budget, being a student and travelling during a weak-dollar period, so I only plan on averaging 18 - 24 euros a day on restaurants, street food, and supermarket - bought fare. I have heard of the menu del dia, which apparently is only 8 - 12 euros at most places, so I plan on eating that often.

I would like some good, local, authentic places with inexpensive menus del dia, street food suggestions, maybe even ethnic food (Indian, Chinese, etc.), but not Moroccan (I plan on eating that in Morocco!). My preferred cuisine for this trip is homestyle Spanish fare.
