I have been researching restaurants that have withstood the test of time: in this case I have set my sights on those places that have been operating consistently for 25 years or more in the greater Westchester area. And Giulio's on Park Hill Ave., Yonkers is on the list. Made a visit on a quiet Tuesday evening and ordered a beer in the bar/lounge as I scanned the place. It was retro all the way. Chef/owner Giulio has been serving his southern Italian fare in this neighborhood for more than 35 years and it seems that little has changed.

Looked over the menu and all the usual Italian-American standards were there, in addition to a handful of blackboard specialties. Where do you start? I ordered one of their classic Neapolitan-style pizzas with meatballs and sweet sausage. Noticed that there were deep dish pizzas available, too. It turned out to be a very large pie, as I was warned by my server. And very flavorful! All the elements worked well together from the crust, which was just malleable enough, to the cheese and the toppings. I used a couple of the garnishes that had been lined up on the side of the pizza tray, but they were hardly necessary. Ended up taking half home. Will be back...
