Soul Food in Atlanta, Georgia

While in town with the show Wicked, I was told by some of our company members that Mary Mac's was a MUST TRY. Well, I went there and I was not that impressed. I had country fried steak, mac n cheese, and cornbread stuffing. The steak was not very tasty and was a bit dry, the mac n cheese was very greasy and the corn bread was very mushy like polenta. Now some folks have told me that there are great items there and the service was great, but I can't recommend Mary Mac's. There is a great soul food place that a local took me to called Glady's and Ron's Fried Chicken and Waffles(which is owned by Glady's Knight and her husband Ron.) This place had a great ambience and the food was fantastic. I had to have the fried chicken and waffles because being from San Francisco, I've never had such a combo before. The chicken was excellent and the waffle was perfect. Had sweet potatoe pie for dessert which was also great. Service was fantastic but get there early as it does get crowded on weekends. Both Mary Mac's and Glady's and Ron's are walking distance to the Fox Theater which is where we played.
