On Super Bowl Sunday in February I stopped by Sotola Bar & Grill mid-afternoon for a solo late lunch. The restaurant had been open less than two months and was not very busy, but it was offering a bar menu for the game with sourcing from local farms and seas.
The Line Caught Lunch plate, $18, featured three substantial tacos topped with halibut in airy fried batter, avocado, slaw and spicy crema that were scrumptious. Soup of the day, $6, was Half-time Chili made with diced New York strip, ground beef and beans, garnished with jalapeños, sour cream and cheese that was delicious too. Prices were a bit high but the quality was there.
Nice views of Capitola and the shoreline. Opening chef was Anthony Kresge, ex-Shadowbrook, but he seems to have moved on. Looking at the current on-line sample menu, no local catch is featured, instead Skuna Bay farmed salmon from Canada.
