S.O.S. Spending a Greek Day in Astoria this Sunday

ariskouvaros | Aug 17, 2007 08:18 AM

Hello everyone,

This is my first post - glad to have found chowhound!

Brief summary of my life: I'm half-greek/half-italian, recently graduated from college in Pittsburgh and moved to Manhattan in June.

Last summer - I studied abroad in Greece (dropped out a week later to travel Greece, the Islands, and Italy). Needless to say, I fell in love with the countries and I can't wait to go back.

My dad is coming up for the day on Sunday, and we wanted to take a train to Astoria and spend the day there (eating, talking about greece, relaxing with a frappe, etc).

From the previous posts - this is my game plan:

Sunday morning - Either heading to Poseidon in Manhattan or Omonia Cafe in Astoria for some baklava and greek coffee.

In between - My dad loves Greek music, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good greek specialty/music stores to browse in the afternoon.

Later: My dad is not picky - especially when it comes to greek food. But really, all we are looking for is to share some excellent calamari, a simple greek salad, a few meze, and drink a ton of retsina. We were hoping to find a place that offers some outside seating if it is nice. We need some help!

Not looking for anything too flashy - we just want to spend a nice sunday together.
I've been seeing Uncle George's, Stamatis, Agnandi, and Taverna Kyclades as recs for greek food.

Really - Any advice would be appreciated!

Zhto H Ellas!!!
