Solo Diner/First Timer in Chicago

bartholomeu | Apr 19, 2016 08:36 AM

This is my first trip to Chicago from April 23-26, coming from New York. After having done some research on these boards, I've come up with a loose itinerary. I'm looking for some input on maybe some places I've missed or things I have to do in Chicago. What I can I get in Chicago that I can't get in New York? Or just better than New York?

I'm also a solo diner, so I'm wondering if any of the places I've mentioned have bars that I can eat at, so that I don't have to wait in as long as a line for a table. Any specific dishes at any of the places I've mentioned would be great as well!

I don't have any dinner plans, so I'm open to all suggestions. I'm considering Purple Pig, Fat Rice, and the Kendall College Dining Room, based on some of the things I've read...

Day 1:
- doughnuts from Doughnut Vault and Glazed & Infused, coffee at Intelligentsia for breakfast
- a leatherworking class at the Chicago School of Shoemaking
- Art Institute of Chicago
- hot dog from Portillo's or Italian Beef from Al's
- Millennium Park tour
- any dinner suggestions?
- 360 Chicago

Day 2:
- breakfast at my hotel
- Shedd Aquarium
- personal pizza from Lou Malnati's for lunch
- Field Museum
- any dinner suggestions?

Day 3:
- breakfast at my hotel
- Adler Planetarium
- lunch pre fixe at Blackbird
- any dinner suggestions?

Day 4:
- breakfast at my hotel
- Museum of Science and Industry
- lunch pre fixe at Topolobampo
- any dinner suggestions?

Topolobampo,
Portillo's Hot Dogs,
Lou Malnati's Pizzeria
