From the day that famed pastry chef, Ron Mendoza revealed his plans to open a bread bakery to explore the savory side, many of us quietly prayed that in due time he would experiment again with ice cream making. https://www.chowhound.com/post/carmel... On Fathers Day, I stopped by the Summer Market at Other Brother Beer and was ecstatic to see that the soft serve machine had been revved up. Organic vanilla soft serve was on the menu . . . Chef had returned to the frozen side.
This run through was not cold enough to make fancy swirls. Yet the serving temperature made the purity of the vanilla and dairy base all that much more direct and clear on the palate. The portion also seemed a bit small to me for $6. However, I viewed this as an experiment and having tried a few things now in early stages have learned to trust that they continue to be refined and improve in time.
Ad Astra announced on Instagram that vanilla soft serve is on for the holiday weekend, and that there will be more to come. The photo shows a firmer swirly and larger serving, fixing the earlier deficits.
Can't wait to see what's in store!
