the smokehouse - berkeley

I had a terrific burger yesterday at the Smokehouse - a real "old Berkeley" kind of place about seven blocks south of campus on Telegraph (directly opposite Gramma's Inn.) The sign says it's been there since 1952, and that feels about right. They serve burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, fries and an unnamed "salad." My double cheeseburger was an enormous meal for about $3.85 - they didn't ask how I wanted it, and it was more well done than I might have requested, but somehow it was perfect.

Seating is on wooden picnic tables - some outdoors, and some slightly sheltered by an awning and a partition, though not really indoors. (It was OK on a slightly chilly afternoon, but wouldn't be in cold weather.) There was a great mix of people of all ages and types. I don't recall having seen this written up on the board - have I just missed it?
