SMITH'S BAR report

mrnyc | Mar 31, 2002 02:53 PM

i needed to slake my thirst this morning after watching the all the wholesome fun at the easter parade, so i slunk over into SMITH'S BAR for a shorty of amstel light. i'd almost forgotten how few and i think important 'old school' places like this are these days. it's a perfect classic setup for a bar/tavern.

that menu above the food counter, has it ever changed? pig's knuckles, short ribs, knockwursts, a variety of broiled fish(yikes!), etc. -- pretty cool in theory. they were busy and most of the food seems to turn over fairly quickly, but a few things on the steam table looked congealed. definitely take a look-see before you order anything, or have more than one beer first--ha! give this place a go before we lose it to the developers and gentrifiers. oh, btw i ordered an egg on a roll to go. it was good.
