we ran out of the fancy dish washing liquid, and got some hideous lemon scented stuff at the corner store . . . after an overnight chemical lemon soak (by my loved one, ahem) all four of my silicon spatulas smell and taste like dish detergent, esp when they are warm and wet - like when you stir the sauce. Bleech!
I tried sitting them in baking soda for 24 hours, in the hope that the smell would be absorbed and removed. I've scrubbed them of course. Any other ideas? Do I have to throw these out?
It's peculiar, since I make acidy food (tomato sauce), chili sauces, mole, curries and all sorts of strongly flavored food that have never stuck in the silicon. Occasional tumeric stains, but even those wear off pretty quick.
I hate mainstream dishwashing liquid with a passion now . . .
