i just visited noodle heaven, in the guise of Slurp! on Telegraph in Berkeley. They offer fresh housemade (but not hand-pulled) wheat noodles in a variety of soups and wok-fried dishes. They also use glass noodles from an outside source.
I've had mixed experiences at Slurp, but today the maestros were in superb form, and when they are on, Slurp is everything I ever wanted from a noodle house.
I had the noodle soup with pork and pickled vegetables.
The soup broth was flavorful and colored a rich deep brown. The pickled vegetables were snappy and salty, the pork bits and mushrooms were tasty, and the noodles, ah, the noodles, they were just perfect--al dente in the way that only freshly made wheat noodles can be. Just enough bite, and a lovely texture.
Also had a good $1 pint of watermelon agua fresca. And listened to a Latin version of "Never on Sunday." I guess the Latino cooks are making their own influence known. Dig it.
