Sloppy Mama's BBQ new Lee Highway location

Ate lunch there today. Pretty good, but it didn't blow me away. Service is like at Hill Country - you order by weight (the food, not yours) at one end of the counter and pay for it at the other end. There are tables but unless you ask for help, service is do-it-yourself. The good news is that you can get as little as you want. I wanted to try a few things so I got 1/4 pound each of pulled-then-chopped pork and brisket, plus one rib. The pork was rather fatty and I paid for and didn't eat maybe 15-20% of what I was served. It did have a decent flavor though, like real smoke. The brisket, too, tasted good but was too dry. At Hill Country and (if you ask for it) at Texas Jack's, you can get "moist" brisket that has some fat from marbling that isn't all rendered out. The rib was fine.

As Steve mentioned, it's kind of pricey. My lunch with the 10% Arlington tax and a 10% tip (I'd feel guilty if I didn't tap one of the tip boxes on the credit card tablet while the cashier was watching me) my lunch, with plain water to drink, was over $18. The good news is that I didn't leave hungry.

Honestly, at $27/lb for brisket, I'd rather have a decent steak. I didn't try the chicken, but at $10 for a half chicken, that's probably the best deal if it's good, though I'm enough of a BBQ snob so that I go for beef or pork, not chicken. They have sandwiches - $10 for 1 meat, $12 for 2 meats (weight unspecified), and as a combo with one side and a drink for $15. I saw someone go by with a sandwich that looked pretty generous. That might be the best deal for a light meal. Sides are the usual suspects - potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, mac-and-cheese, corn bread, and hot sweet pickles, all $4 for a single serving.
